Here’s what you’ll need to know regarding your DOL knowledge & drive tests:

If you’re from another Country:

  • If you are from another country or Canadian Province: complete all steps to getting your first license
  • If you’re visiting Washington: you can use your out-of-country license for only 1 year

If you have a valid Washington ID/License/Permit you may skip to the next step.

The Knowledge Test

  • Study the book
  • Pre-apply for first license at www.dol.wa.gov  (If you have a valid Washington ID/License/Permit you do not need to pre-apply).
  • Schedule a knowledge test appointment- $25.00 testing fee
  • Must bring photo ID and confirmation number from the pre application online
  • Pass the test with 32 out of 40 points (if you fail, there could be a waiting period before you can retest)
  • Visit a DOL office with original birth certificate & photo ID

*Your passing score is good for 2 years

The Driving Test

  • Pass the Knowledge test, then you are able to schedule the Driving Test
  • $30 fee to use own vehicle for test
  • $40 fee to use Accurate Driving Academy vehicle for test

If you are under the age of 18, to obtain your driver’s license at a DOL office you must:

  • Have your permit for at least 6 months
  • Take traffic safety education course
  • Have at least an accumulated 50 hours of supervised driving

*If you provide your own vehicle you need to bring proof of insurance and to use your own vehicle, your vehicle must adhere to all minimum Washington State laws and regulations.

Washington Teen Drivers

Safety and Education Course

This is a 5-week class that meets 3 days a week.

  1. 6-1 hour drives (some schools offer 5 drives and 4 hours on of driving simulation)
  2. 6-1 hour driving observation
  3. 30- hours classroom time

Defensive Driving Education Course

This class will improve the driver’s knowledge of traffic laws and improve safety to themselves and passengers. We teach you to drive defensively, to be more alert to what is happening around you and anticipate problems and take measures to avoid accidents.

Private Driving Assessment

This is a private drive with an instructor who will evaluate your driving skills to find any areas that could use improvement.

Personalized Private Drives

This drive is for adults or teenagers who want a one-on-one driving experience with one of our instructors. They will teach you the latest in driver safety.

Refresher Drive

Needing to have a refresher course? Contact us to schedule a drive to help prepare you for taking the Washington state skills test or to refresh your memory with a couple driving classes.
